Third Dacorum Climate Action Network event held

We were delighted to bring together local people and organisations to “think global and act local” at our annual Dacorum Climate Action Network (Dacorum CAN) event.

More than 90 people attended the event on Monday 20 November 2023 at The Forum, Hemel Hempstead. The evening ran from 6pm until 9pm and was intended to engage, educate, and enable Dacorum residents and communities to take positive climate action and network with like-minded individuals and organisations.

Local organisations hosted stalls at the event to showcase the fantastic work they are doing in the borough. Together they covered a range of themes, including biodiversity, waste reduction and recycling, home energy and the New Local Plan.

Throughout the evening, the audience heard from speakers representing Dacorum Environmental Forum, Community Action Dacorum, Grand Union Community Energy, and Sustainable Tring. These presentations provided the basis for lively and positive discussion about how we can work together across the borough to secure a better future for all.

For those who attended the event in person, a vegetarian buffet was provided as well as a range of activities and freebies for the networking breaks. These included a plant-based mince pie tasting station, free packets of wildflower seeds, pledge photo card props and a clothes swap demonstration rail.

The event was chaired by Cllr Adrian England, our Portfolio Holder for Climate Change, Deputy Leader and Chair of the Hertfordshire Climate Change and Sustainability Partnership. He said: “One theme that was present through the whole event was how our everyday actions – from the way we travel, to our home energy use and our shopping habits - have a climate and ecological impact.

"When we work together to tackle the Climate and Ecological outlook, our collective actions, no matter how small, can generate a better alternative future for us all.”

The evening was streamed online for virtual attendees to be able to watch at home. If you missed the event but would like to watch the recording, the video is available on our YouTube channel. Photos of the event are available on our Flickr page.

Dacorum CAN was launched in 2021 and already has more than 600 individuals and 90 organisations signed up. Find out more and sign up to the free network on our Dacorum CAN page.
