A new electric vehicle charging point (EVCP) station has opened in the Old Town High Street in Hemel Hempstead, adding to the public car park locations included in the current programme - with many more to follow across the borough.

Three new “Rapid” 60kW Osprey EVCPs are now live in the car park, with installation work soon to be completed in Wood Lane End car park, Leverstock Green Shopping Parade and Hicks Road car park in Markyate.

A range of different EVCPs - from “Fast” to “Ultra Rapid” - are on the way at many other sites in Dacorum, with installation starting soon. We'll release information about when these will be available as the designs are finalised and works are planned.

The rapid and ultra-rapid EVCP facilities are fully funded and operated by Osprey Charging Network. We were also awarded £415,360 by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV), with support from the Energy Saving Trust, for additional charging points to be fitted in our public car parks for those with plug-in electric vehicles.

Cllr Adrian England, our Portfolio Holder for Climate Change, and Deputy Leader of the Council, said: “These EV rapid chargers provide an opportunity to get a quick charge from 20 per cent to 80 per cent in around 30 minutes, depending on your car, combined with a coffee in the High Street or a similarly recharging walk in Gadebridge Park. We hope the new EVCPs will encourage more drivers to have confidence in switching to electric vehicles, as we work towards making Dacorum net-zero before 2050.”
