Help and advice

Please see our list of frequently asked questions below for more advice.

  • What happens if the information I request is included in the publication scheme?

The publication scheme will show what format our information is in. For example, if it is available online, in a paper copy or available at council offices.

    You can either:

    • View the information in the format provided, or
    • Make an information request for a paper copy of the information.
  • How long will it take to respond to my request?

We must reply within 20 working days of receiving your request. If we need you to provide extra information to help us identify and find the information, the 20 days period will start when we receive this extra information.

If there is a fee for the information, the 20-day time limit will stop until you have paid the fee.

If the request is subject to a public interest test, we will let you know how long it will take.
  • Is there a fee?

If you are requesting information that is in our publication scheme, the scheme will give you details about whether (and how much) we will charge for providing it.

If you are requesting information not included within the publication scheme, we may charge you a fee. We will let you know if there is a fee.

  • How can I receive information?

You can request that the information is supplied to you in any format (for example, in print or by email). Before we fulfil your request, we will take into account the cost and practicality of providing the information in your preferred format.

  • What if my request is refused?

We will only refuse or partially refuse a request for information if it falls under one of the exemption categories.

If we refuse your request, we will tell you why and we will identify which exemption we are applying. If you are not happy with the outcome, you can apply for an internal review.

Please email foi@dacorum.gov.uk stating you are applying for an internal review of our response to your request.

If we uphold the decision to apply an exemption or withhold the response after an internal review, and you are not happy with the outcome, you can request the Information Commissioner to review our decision.
