Community COVID Recovery Grants

The community and voluntary sector in Dacorum quickly moved to support the community during the COVID-19 pandemic. Organisations worked to arrange food deliveries to vulnerable residents, befriending services to lonely and isolated people, and gave advice to residents about what benefits were available to them while self-isolating. This increased their costs, and without the usual opportunities for fundraising, vital community and voluntary groups in Dacorum are suffering.

The Community COVID Recovery Grant is a one-off fund for community and voluntary organisations that have been directly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The fund, which offers grants of up to £5,000, will cover issues that have previously been excluded from funding.

Examples of what can be funded include:

  • Rent and rates
  • Insurance
  • PPE
  • Equipment
  • IT and subscriptions
  • COVID-19 compliance

These grants will help to ensure these community and voluntary organisations remain viable and sustainable whilst delivering support to residents who have been directly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

For more information, please read the  Community COVID Recovery Grant Guidance (PDF 653KB).

To apply for the grant, please contact Niamh Thomas, Community Partnerships and Wellbeing Officer (Funding and Partnerships) via email: niamh.thomas@dacorum.gov.uk. The deadline for applications is 5pm on Friday 29 October 2021.

Community grants

The Community Grant is designed to support community activities and improve the wellbeing of Dacorum residents. It is aimed at community groups and voluntary organisations within the borough who are looking for funding to deliver projects that will primarily benefit the people living in Dacorum. Projects must support our vision and priorities, as well as the "five ways to wellbeing" (see guidance notes below for more information)

Please note: If you are successful in being awarded a small grant or larger community grant, you may not apply for further funding until the next financial year.

Need inspiration? Here is a list of projects that we have previously funded:

Green Community Grants

As part of our climate and ecological emergency work, we now provide Green Community Grants. Groups can obtain a maximum of £2,000.

This scheme is specifically set up to support projects in our community that benefit the environment, as well as Dacorum’s residents. The purpose is to encourage and enable local groups to "think global and act local" whilst tackling environmental challenges.

In order to apply for funding, proposed Green Community Grant projects must demonstrate that they will actively help towards the mitigation of the climate and ecological emergency locally. Your project will need to fit at least one (ideally more) of our key environmental themes:

  • Energy and emissions
  • Transport
  • Biodiversity
  • Waste and consumption. (Please note: activities around litter picking and fly-tipping will not be eligible for funding. If you are interested in litter picking, please see our community litter pick page or our Street Champions scheme.)

Projects must also engage with or benefit the local community. The projects with the greatest impacts will be awarded the funding.

The Green Community Grant scheme is currently closed to applications. If you would like to be notified when it is next running, please email sustainability@dacorum.gov.uk

How to prepare an application

Please note that this scheme is separate to the Community Grant scheme (above).
