Statement regarding closure of Wilko store in Hemel Hempstead

The Council is extremely disappointed with the news of the closure of the Wilko store in the Marlowes Shopping Centre, Hemel Hempstead, placing the jobs of more than 35 workers at risk.

Our first thought is of course for the workers and their families who will be affected by the news.

We have been in direct contact with the Store Manager for Wilko Hemel Hempstead, to provide a range of support for those affected and have arranged to meet with all the employees so we can continue to support them throughout this difficult time.

Councillor Sheron Wilkie, our Portfolio Holder for Place, said: “The collapse and closure of many Wilko stores was truly a shock to many around the country. We know the devastation for the working people and their families, and they are our priority. We will continue to work with our local partners and our business sector to support those affected by this closure and help support local people into sustainable employment."
