Radicalisation and extremism
Prevent
Prevent is a key component of the Government's Counter-Terrorism Strategy, known as CONTEST. Its primary goal is to prevent individuals from supporting or becoming involved in terrorism.
Prevent aims to:
- tackle the ideological causes of terrorism
- intervene early to support people susceptible to radicalisation
- enable people who have already engaged in terrorism to disengage and rehabilitate.

What to do if you are worried about someone being radicalised
We work in partnership with the police, education, health and public service providers to prevent radicalisation. If you are concerned that someone is being radicalised, or at risk of radicalisation, tell someone about it in confidence.
You can do this by calling:
- Police on 101 or 999 if there is an emergency.
- Anti-terrorist hotline on 0800 789 321
- Crime stoppers on 0900 555111.
Or seek advice locally by emailing prevent@hertfordshire.gov.uk
Report terrorist material you’ve found online
You can anonymously report material that may promote terrorism or encourage violence through the Government website . This includes:
- Articles, images, speeches or videos that promote terrorism or encourage violence
- Websites made by terrorist or extremist organisations
- Videos of terrorist attacks.
