Community project to refurbish basketball court completed

We've been working with the community to refurbish Hemel Hempstead’s only outdoor full-size basketball court

The revamp of Northridge Way Basketball Court is now fully complete and the facility is open to local residents. It is already proving popular with up and coming youth basketball players, as well as players from local club Hemel Sharks.

The court has been transformed with a new all-weather sports surface, new hoops, fencing and a small seating area.

We partnered up with Hemel Hempstead firm Whitton Electrical, based at Maylands, who gave just over £27,000 sponsorship towards the project.

There will be an official opening event on Saturday 28 May at 2pm with a ribbon cutting, showcase game and interactive activities for the community.

Cllr Julie Banks, Portfolio Holder for Community and Regulatory Services, said: “We are committed to providing access to first-class sporting facilities for our residents and the new refurbished court is proving to be a fantastic space for residents, basketball players and our local clubs. We’re really proud to provide a facility of such high standard to our residents and it’s a real indication of what can be achieved when the community works together. Thank you to Whitton Electrical for its sponsorship and helping to provide a facility for the borough to be proud of.”

Martin Bruce from Whitton Electrical said: “We really wanted to put back into the community and provide somewhere for young people to develop their skills and fitness. It’s fantastic to see it open and being used by so many players already. There is no other court of its standard in the area and it’s something Dacorum should be proud of.”
