Armed Forces Day - a virtual celebration

Show your support for the armed forces

We're organising activities in honour of Armed Forces Day on Saturday 27 June.

Armed Forces Day is an opportunity for us and residents to show gratitude and appreciation for the men and women who make up the armed forces community - from current serving troops to service families, veterans, cadets and their families and friends.

Last year we hosted an Armed Forces Day event at Gadebridge Park, which attracted more than 3,000 people. Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in the UK we have been unable to hold the event in the park this year. However, we will be marking Armed Forces Day by sharing stories and photographs on our Armed Forces Day 2020 page and our social media channels, including veteran plane crash survivor, Jamie Hull, who has an amazing story to tell.

The celebrations will begin on 22 June when flags are raised on buildings and landmarks throughout the county, including The Forum in Hemel Hempstead. The flag will continue to fly for Reserves Day on Wednesday 24 June and Armed Forces Day on Saturday 27 June.

Julie Banks, Portfolio Holder for Communities and Regulatory Services, said: “I hope that members of our local community will enjoy the photographs and stories from local people supporting Armed Forces Day.”

Information about support for the armed forces can be found on our Armed Forces Day 2020 page, together with more information about Jamie Hull’s inspirational journey.

Armed Forces Day is an annual national campaign which usually has events throughout the UK to celebrate the work of members of the armed forces - the Army, Royal Air Force and Royal Navy. It is supported by a large number of celebrities, politicians, organisations, businesses and charities.

Further information on Armed Forces Day, including a full list of events, can be found on the dedicated Armed Forces Day website.
