Disabled parking bays

Advisory and statutory disabled bays

Advisory disabled bays within a residential area are generally requested by a disabled resident and cannot be enforced as a disabled bay. These bays differ from 'statutory' bays as they have no sign post indicating disabled parking only. It is a courtesy than non-disabled vehicles would not park in an advisory bay.

Advisory disabled bays within a Controlled Parking Zone

Advisory disabled bays within a Controlled Parking Zone are reserved for residents' parking only, and therefore a residents' parking permit or residents' visitor parking session would be required to park there, even if you have a valid disabled parking badge.

Apply for a disabled parking bay

Hertfordshire Highways can install disabled drivers' advisory bays in residential areas.

You can apply for an advisory disabled parking bay by writing to Hertfordshire Highways, PO Box 153, Stevenage, Herts, SG1 2NG.

For renewal, please include a photocopy of your blue badge with your letter.

For more information, visit Hertfordshire County Council's website or telephone Hertfordshire Highways on 0300 123 4047.
