Marlowes pedestrianised shopping area and Bank Court

Regeneration has revitalised Hemel Hempstead's main Marlowes shopping area. At the end of November 2015 we said goodbye to our contractors Greenford and the area was officially opened by then Mayor, Councillor Gbola Adeleke.

Children's play areas

Shopping is now fun for all the family, thanks to five exciting new 'play-on-the-way' areas along the main high street. Play options including a tight rope, water play, balancing balls, slides and trampolines.

An avenue of tulip trees has been planted and the food court re-landscaped, creating the feeling of 'a city within a park', as architect Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe visualised in his original design for the New Town.

New Town Square

At the heart of the town we have created New Town Square central entertainment space. Here you will find the Rainbow Stage, which is available for live public performances, and Town Square TV, our big screen which is used for film screenings, public information and advertising local businesses and voluntary organisations. At the centre is the newly refurbished Waterplay statue, situated on a modern plinth and surrounded by ground-level water jets synchronised to light and music which is hugely popular over the summer. The fountain is switched off during colder months.

Bank Court

Providing the perfect view from Marlowes through to the Water Gardens, currently undergoing their own regeneration, is Bank Court. This piazza-style space has been transformed, with attractive paving, new planters and benches.
