Marlowes shopping zone
Marlowes pedestrianised shopping area and Bank Court
We have transformed the heart of Hemel Hempstead’s shopping area into a unique place that offers something for everyone and is a vibrant, lively place to be. We hope these changes will attract more visitors, business and investment and make it a place that people want to shop, work, live and enjoy.
The Marlowes Shopping Zone includes the Riverside and Marlowes shopping centres, the pedestrianised area and the ramped area near the bus stops. To make the most of our resources, the work has been focused on the pedestrianised area.
Please visit our Marlowes pedestrianised shopping area and Bank Court page for more details.
Bus Interchange and Waterhouse Street
To enhance the planned improvements for Marlowes Shopping Zone and Water Gardens, we have now completed the new Hemel Hempstead Bus Interchange along Marlowes and Bridge Street. The aim was to make it as easy as possible for visitors to access the town centre and support local businesses.
Hemel Hempstead Bus Interchange provides visitors with new toilets next to the food court area, extra bus shelters, real-time passenger information boards (so you know exactly when your bus will arrive), new seating, extra space (having removed the planters near the ramp and improved landscaping), a refurbished ramped area and dedicated coach and long-haul services in Bridge Street. This priority access for buses, supported by changes to Waterhouse Street, should make Hemel Hempstead a pleasant travel experience for new and regular visitors to the town.
Changes to Waterhouse Street include the relocated and longer taxi rank, 12 dedicated Blue Badge spaces and two short stay/pick-up/drop bays for quick access to coach services and the shops.
Industrial action is being taken by members of Unite The Union and Unison. This may affect council services over the Easter Holiday and weeks thereafter. Residents are asked to place their bins out as usual on their scheduled collection day. Residents can check on our website or follow us on social media for regular updates. We will do our best to maintain essential services and minimise disruption as far as possible. We apologise in advance for any disruption caused. ×
