The Queen visits Dacorum for the first time in over 60 years
Her Majesty the Queen visited Berkhamsted on Friday 6 May. The last time she visited the borough was 64 years ago. The Queen was driven along Berkhamsted High Street as the cheering crowd waved flags, before arriving at St Peter’s Church.
At the church the Queen met members of the community and the Mayor of Dacorum, Cllr Gbola Adeleke.
Sally Marshall, Chief Executive of Dacorum Borough Council, also had the opportunity to meet the Queen during her visit. Sally said: “It was an honour to be able to meet the Queen during her second visit to Dacorum, especially as it was her first visit to the borough in over 60 years. It’s fantastic that Her Majesty has come to Berkhamsted during her 90th birthday celebrations and it was great to see the whole community come out and enjoy this historic occasion.”
The Queen then went to Berkhamsted School to meet pupils and teachers to mark the 475th anniversary since the school was founded. After a tour and lunch at the school the Queen was whisked off by helicopter back to the palace.
The Queen last visited the borough in July 1952, coming to what was then called ‘The Square’ in Adeyfield, Hemel Hempstead. It was later renamed The Queen’s Square after her visit.

To celebrate the Queens 90th birthday and commemorate her first visit to the borough, we are hosting The Big Lunch on Sunday 12 June. The event will start at 12pm in The Queen's Square in Adeyfield, Hemel Hempstead, and there will be a Mini Olympics held from 1pm in neighbouring Reith Fields.
