If you live in Dacorum and get a means-tested benefit then you may be entitled to a Dacorum Card - a free card that gives you discounts and privileges at more than 200 local businesses and facilities, including sport and leisure, food and drink, transport, Council services, and many more.

  • Am I eligible for a Dacorum Card?

    You are eligible for a card if you live in Dacorum and your household receives any of the following means-tested benefits:

     If you receive Proof to bring or send 
    Income-related Job Seekers' Allowance Recent letter from the Benefits Agency 
    Income Support Order book or recent letter from the Benefits Agency 
    Pension Credit Letter of Entitlement from the Pension Service
    Employment Support  Recent letter from the Benefits Agency 
    Universal Credit  Recent letter from the Benefits Agency 
    NHS Tax Credit Exemption Certificate Current NHS Tax Credit Certificate from NHS Prescription Pricing Authority (not exemptions from charges) 
    Housing Benefit  Letter of confirmation from Dacorum Borough Council 
    Council Tax Support (not 25% single persons' discount)  Letter of confirmation from Dacorum Borough Council  
    Assistance with NHS charges HC2 or HC3 certificate (not exemptions from charges)
    16-19 Discretionary Grant  Letter from Herts County Council 


    If you are the carer of someone to which one of the above applies, then the eligible person can apply for you to have a Dacorum Card to receive discounts on their behalf.

  • How do I get a Dacorum Card?

    Not sure how to get a Dacorum Card? You can apply for a card in person or by post.

    In person

    Take the following items to Hemel Hempstead Civic Centre, Berkhamsted Civic Centre or Victoria Hall, Tring:

    We will take your photograph free of charge.

    Please check the opening hours for council offices.

    By post

    If you would like to apply by post you need to send us:

    • Your completed  Dacorum Card postal application form (PDF 124 KB)
    • Proof of your eligibility for a Dacorum Card
    • Proof that you are a resident of Dacorum, e.g. photocopy of phone bill, driving licence, rent book, etc.
    • A recent photograph of you, in any size, and photographs of anyone else you have included in the application.

    We can only process your application if we receive all of these items.

    Please only post photocopies of important documents as we can't be held responsible for documents lost.

  • Dacorum Card terms and conditions

    If you lose your Dacorum Card we will replace it the first time free of charge. If you lose it a second time there will be a £2.50 administration charge unless you can produce a crime reference number. If the card is lost for the third time (within a six-month period) you will need to reapply and there will be a £10 handling fee unless you can produce a crime reference number. A fourth card will not be issued (even with a crime reference number) within any single six-month period.

    You must show a Dacorum Card to obtain discounts / special offers which are for your own use. Use by any other person may result in cancellation of your card. The full price will be charged if the card is not produced.

    Dacorum Card is valid until the expiry date shown.

    Dacorum Card is no longer valid if your eligibility changes. The card should be returned to us in the event of this happening.

    You must tell us about any change of address, name or other relevant circumstances.

    Misuse of the card will result in its withdrawal from the cardholder.

    If the card is lost, stolen or damaged, a new application form and proof of status will be required.

    Your Dacorum Card may be used for obtaining available discounts when booking over the phone. Your card number must be given. Dacorum Card must be shown when collecting tickets.

    Discount agreements made with private companies may be subject to change at any time. Please always enquire as to the availability of discounts before deciding on a purchase.

    Discounts will not be given to individuals booking on behalf of a club, team or organisation.

    Dacorum Borough Council is not an agent for the businesses or individuals that take part in the Dacorum Card scheme, which advertises in the Dacorum Directory, and we are unable to vouch for any advertising claims, including time sensitive information such as prices, discounts, interest rates, professional qualifications, trade certifications, membership of trade associations or content of websites. We advise any person who intends on purchasing goods or services from any business or individual that takes part in the scheme to satisfy themselves as to the exact type of goods or services offered, the quality of such goods and services offered, the accuracy of any prices, discounts or interest rates quoted or the qualification held by the business or individuals.

    Dacorum Borough Council can take no responsibility for any loss or damage caused by the products and services offered by private companies under the terms of this scheme, or as advertised in The Dacorum Card Directory. Inclusion in the scheme / directory does not imply any endorsement or recommendation by us.

    Dacorum Borough Council reserves the right to amend or end the discount scheme and conditions of use without further notice.

  • What is the Dacorum Card?

    The Dacorum Card is a free card that gives the holder discounts and privileges. There are currently over 10,000 cardholders, and this number is increasing all the time from the 25,000 people who are eligible.

    Around 200 local businesses are already supporting the scheme and enjoying the free publicity.

  • Who can get a Dacorum Card?

    Residents of Dacorum who get means-tested benefits (or their carers) are eligible to claim a Dacorum Card. The card, which is valid for one year, has the holder's photograph on the front.

    The commitment you choose to make is entirely at your discretion. Joining the Dacorum Card scheme is free. All we ask is that you offer a discount or privilege to Dacorum Card holders. We will then list details of your offer on our website.
