Our consultation on the Emerging Strategy for Growth stage of the Local Plan closed in February 2021. The consultation attracted comments from more than 3,500 respondents, which are currently being collated.
In the summer, the outcome of the Local Plan consultation will be reported to our committees and Council, to agree the next steps in the process.
James Doe, our Assistant Director of Planning, Development and Regeneration, said: “We are delighted with the level of response we have received from residents to the consultation. We will consider all the comments and concerns raised, and look carefully at all the options as we progress the Local Plan.”
Last week (on Tuesday 20 April), Cabinet agreed that work could begin on the preparation of a Hemel Place Strategy. This will be a multi-agency programme aimed at coordinating growth across the town. It will look particularly at further development options in the town centre, including bringing forward alternative residential use.
This is a significant piece of work that will feed into the continuing development of the Local Plan, alongside a comprehensive review of brownfield sites across the borough.
