The first residents have moved into our new properties at Magenta Court, as we prepare to reach our target to provide 300 new homes by the end of 2020.
The canalside project in Hemel Hempstead comprises 29 one- and two-bedroom flats, all for social rent. Sited next to the historic Apsley Paper Mill, the design of this development is sympathetic to the neighbouring 1800s buildings, while providing modern and energy efficient homes for residents.
Councillor Margaret Griffiths, Portfolio Holder for Housing, visited the site last week along with Leader of the Council, Cllr Andrew Williams, and Chief Executive Sally Marshall, our housing development team and Jarvis Contracting's CEO Mark Doyle.
Cllr Griffiths said: “To be able to complete new homes this year is an enormous achievement by our development team and Jarvis Contracting. It shows our commitment to our successful building programme, which is delivering a legacy of new homes
for the borough. My thanks also go to our consultants and the construction team at Jarvis on the delivery of this outstanding project.
“Situated on the Grand Union Canal, within walking distance of Apsley train station (which has a direct connection to London Euston) and providing easy access to other local amenities, Magenta Court is in a great location to enable its new occupants
to enjoy becoming part of the local community. This is a truly stunning development and a place that we hope residents will be proud to call home.”
Mark Doyle, Jarvis Contracting CEO, said: “Anyone associated with the Magenta Court project can only feel an enormous sense of pride. The scheme was deceptively challenging because of multiple and significant issues below ground, so I am full of admiration for Dacorum Borough Council for remaining committed to this development and for not compromising on the design, which complements and completes a very charming wider estate, whilst using land that has been an eyesore for many years. The quality of this new development is exceptional and will provide much-needed new homes to very happy local families.”
