New cycle centre rolls into action

Cyclists outside cycle hubWe're working in partnership with Watford Cycle Hub to open a new community cycle centre in Hemel Hempstead on Sunday 14 May.

Mayor of Dacorum Cllr Robert Mclean will officially open the Dacorum Cycle Hub at 1pm, with the event running from 11am to 3pm.

During the day, there will be 'Go Ride' sessions for those aged six to 16 and 'Learn to Ride' for all ages looking to gain confidence on the bike. There will also be an opportunity to have some fun on pedal-driven go karts.

Julie Still, Group Manager for Resident Services, said: “We want to make cycling journeys safer and easier and promote cycling as a safe, fun and healthy way to travel.

“The Dacorum Cycle Hub is a great place to meet other cyclists and is open to seasoned cyclists as well as families and those just starting out. The new hub is a 'one-stop shop' for everything to do with bikes, including repairs, cycle hire, riding skills and training as well as information and advice. You don’t have to be a cyclist to enjoy the hub, all are welcome."

The new facility can be found next to the Woodhall Farm and Grovehill adventure playground, off Redbourn Road in Hemel Hempstead. It’s close to the Nickey Line, which is one of Dacorum’s most popular cycling routes.

The hub is an excellent starting and/or finishing point for rides and will offer a variety of facilities:

  • Free guided social rides
  • Servicing and repairs
  • Café
  • Bike hire
  • Bike registering
  • Reconditioned bikes for sale

Kate Jenkins, General Manager at Watford Cycle Hub, said: “Dacorum Cycle Hub is a great opportunity for people to get out on a bike and discover the enjoyment of cycling and the local countryside. Cycling is a great way to get to work or school. We’re here to help you, so there will always be a warm, friendly welcome, and whilst you’re here you can share a coffee with friends and make new ones along the way.”
