Clean Safe and Green Community Award 2010Clean Safe and Green Service logo

We are pleased to announce that this year's Community Champion Award goes to the Manor Estate Residents Association (MERA) in Apsley.

The MERA started 5 years ago and they have worked tirelessly in creating initatives that instil civic pride for residents of all ages.  Their intiatives address all aspects of a Clean Safe and Green comunity with regular litter picks, a swap shop of home grown fruit and vegetables, encouraging Neighbourhood Watch Schemes and their valuable contribution to the first Apsley Eco Fair.

MERA are creative in communicating widely with their residents via a dedicated website, regular newsletters and two community noticeboards. As a result, MERA have encouraged good neighbours and a strong community with civic pride.

More photos and news on the winner to follow shortly.

Thank you to all of the groups and individuals who entered this year. The work that you have done has not gone unnoticed and we encourage you to continue to be an inspiration in keeping Dacorum Clean Safe and Green.

The Community Champion Award is sponsored by Arco, who are the UK's leading supplier of personal protective equipment, workwear and workplace safety products.

Clean Safe and Green Community Award 2009

Last year’s winner was Margaret Vassie from Great Gaddesden who was nominated by her neighbour for, despite working full time, always having the time to litter pick, cut neighbours’ grass verges and take out the recycling boxes and bins for her elderly neighbour.

Councillor Bert Chapman, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Sustainability says, “Last year Margaret set a shining example of a Clean Safe and Green Champion and we are looking for some more. We want to hear your stories in how you are keeping your neighbourhood looking and feeling pleasant. It doesn’t matter if it is a small scale or even a large scale activity – we want to hear from you. This award will pay tribute to your efforts.”
