The legislation covers the indoor parts of places such as pubs, bars, nightclubs, cafes and restaurants, lunchrooms, membership clubs and shopping centres. At work, smoking inside is not allowed, and indoor smoking rooms are no longer legal. Public transport and work vehicles used by more than one person are also required to be smoke-free.
You will still be able to smoke in your own home whether you are a home owner, or a tenant. Smoking will still be allowed outside in the open air, however it is important to dispose of your smoking related litter in a responsible manner. You could be issued a fixed penalty notice or fine up to £2500 for dropping such litter.
If you need further advice on how the smoke free legislation affects you or your business contact the Council's Environmental Health team on 01442 228084, or e-mail environmental.health@dacorum.gov.uk   You can also find information on the Smoke-Free England website.
