Dacorum Borough Council spends over £25m each year on supplies, services and works secured through third parties.
Dacorum Borough Council buys supplies, services and works from a wide range of suppliers and service providers and awards contracts to those organisations that can meet the Council's requirements and standards. Contracts can range from small, one-off purchases up to multi-million pound service contracts lasting several years.
We want to help increase the capacity of Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) and Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) firms to become able to secure contracts with us.
We hope that this will generate increased business locally which will, in turn, help local employment and create other community benefits.
We hope you find this page useful and welcome any comments you may have on how to improve it.

The methods we use depends upon the type of product/service and its overall value. This website provides a detailed explanation of our procedures and how you should go about offering your particular trade to us. If the Council is going to tender, there is a standard procedure for this.
The Council has a Corporate Procurement team responsible for arranging, negotiating and monitoring core corporate contracts and buying products on behalf of the Council.
High value construction and engineering contracts are let as either long term, typically for five or more years, or as individual contracts for specific schemes. The Council uses a process of 'approved providers' for such works.
Many of the Council's main services are regularly exposed to competition. For example:
These high value contracts typically last for between three and ten years and have been designed and packaged to enable businesses to bid for the work in a competitive and equitable way.
The way that councils purchase their goods and services can sometimes appear to be complex. In order to assist current and future suppliers, the following guidelines have been prepared.
All contracts offered by the Council are advertised either locally, in appropriate trade journals, or on the following website and/or through the Official Journal of the European Union.
