Hemel 2020 seeks to create a more exciting,
thriving, safe and attractive town centre.
Hemel 2020 seeks to create a town centre
environment that provides the right visitor experience for both
residents and visitors so that Hemel Hempstead becomes a regional
destination in its own right.
The new Riverside Development has started this
process with for example a new Debenhams store, hotel, restaurants,
leisure space and other key retailers.
The Council is seeking a development partner to
develop and drive forward the town centre regeneration aspect of
the Hemel 2020 vision. The developer will lead on the preparation
of a detailed master plan for the Civic Zone area and for the town
centre as a whole, working alongside the council, its partners and
the local community.
This master plan aims to provide a clear and
comprehensive urban design framework to achieve essential
components of the town centre regeneration vision within an
enhanced and inspiring townscape setting.
The town centre regeneration vision will aim to
achieving the right mix of uses in the town centre including
retail, office, commercial, leisure and residential. This will be
achieved by protecting some existing uses and creating new
development opportunities.
