The Council is working to improve access to the
information we hold. There is an ongoing review of the information
and records management procedures and standards that the Authority
uses.
This work is in response to ongoing Council
projects and new legislation designed to improve access to public
sector information.

Freedom Of
Information
The Freedom Of Information (FOI) Act 2000 gives
the public a general right of access to all types of 'recorded'
information held by 'public authorities' (which includes local
authorities). The general right of access is subject to some
exemptions and the Act places a number of obligations on local
authorities.
Personal
Information
The Data Protection (DP) Act 1998 gives the
public a right of access to information about themselves and sets
out a number of obligations on all organisations holding personal
information.
