The Housing Service
Dacorum Housing
Service provides a wide range of services both to its tenants
and the wider community, managing just over 11,000 homes,
representing about one fifth of those in the Borough. We
provide a comprehensive Tenancy
Management service dealing with such issues as management of
the Housing Register, transfers, mutual exchanges, Moving with
Dacorum, tenant involvement, rent recovery, neighbour disputes,
estate management and anti-social behaviour. We also manage 32
Sheltered Housing Schemes for the
over 50s, as well as a number of bungalows and non-sheltered flats
and provide a community alarm system for both council and private
residents. We are responsible for the Repairs and Maintenance of Council properties
and carry out planned programmes of improvement work such as new
kitchens and bathrooms and external decoration, as well as day to
day responsive repairs.
Our Housing Advice
section provides free and confidential advice service for anyone
with housing enquiries, including queries regarding rent/mortgage
arrears, advice on Housing Benefits,
information on the private rented sector and the prevention of
Homelessness.
We also work closely with local Housing
Associations to provide more Affordable
Housing in the Borough, including provision of shared ownership
and key worker accommodation.
Housing Futures
Housing Futures is
the name of the project set up in May 2008 to look at the proposed
transfer of all council houses, flats, bungalows and sheltered
schemes to a new organisation called Dacorum Community
Gateway.

Supporting People
Supporting People funds services which provide
housing-related support. Its aim is to prevent
homelessness and help people do things for themselves so that they
can continue living at home, rather than go into hospital or
residential care.
Each of the services listed in the Supporting
People directory of services explains who to make a referral
through and includes contact details. The Supporting People
directory of services, along with further information on Supporting
People can be found at
Help set the
standards for social housing!
The Tenant Services Authority (TSA) is a newly
formed body that has taken over the responsibility for regulating
social housing in England. Initially the TSA will have powers to
regulate only housing associations and co-operatives. Subject to
Parliamentary approval, these powers will be extended in spring
2010 to include the regulation of all local authority landlords and
Arms Length Management Organisations (ALMOs).
The TSA is currently holding a ‘National
Conversation’ to help it shape its new standards framework. This
framework will define excellence in housing delivery and will cover
rented tenants, shared owners and purchasers of New Build Home Buy.
The TSA’s focus is very much on affordable housing tenants and
shared owners but it wants to hear from leaseholders as well.
To provide our tenants, leaseholders and
prospective tenants with the opportunity to express their views on
the new standards framework, we are holding three consultation
meetings.
Meetings will last no longer than 2 hours and
refreshments will be provided
If you would like to help set the standards for
social housing by attending one of these meetings, please contact
